Final journey for county lorry fan

TO some, arriving at their final resting place on the back of a lorry may not seem the glamorous send-off they thought they would have.

But the family of William Ruck, who died last month aged 73, knew that was exactly how he would have wanted it.

Mr Ruck, from Ross-on- Wye, loved lorries and used to ride around in his son-in-law Jason’s vehicle whenever he could.

His son Andrew said he was sure his dad would have approved, and said the funeral went ‘brilliantly’.

“Although he liked the simple things in life, dad loved lorries so we thought this would be a great sendoff.

Actually, if he was here he would probably have told us off for making a fuss.”

Mr Ruck’s coffin was brought to Hereford Crematorium on the back of James Matthew’s lorry, with a plaque that read “RIP William (Bill) Ruck”.

Mr Ruck, who previously worked as a farmhand then a factory worker, leaves behind his wife Leonora, daughter Pauline and son Andrew.
