737 jet spotted in Hereford
9:41am Monday 25th February 2013 in News
The 737 fuselage makes its way through Hereford
PASSERS-by were left rubbing their eyes in surprise at the sight of what appeared to be a Boeing 737 making its way through Hereford yesterday.
This image and story was sent in by HT reader Emil - many thanks to other readers who sent in reports and comments on this.
Reader Keith L Morgan commented that the fuselage came from the Ross direction but had to go across the New Bridge around the roundabout and back across to get onto the Abergavenny Road as it was so big it could not take the left turn off the roundabout on the way in.
Meanwhile Charles Thompson posted a video - link below- on our Facebook page of the plane making its way through Belmont.
More details on this story to follow.

Doesn't look like Ross on Wye to me. A roundabout with traffic lights, and with building hoardings by it. Now where could it be? More top class journalism!
The HT originally stated that the fuselage was in Ross on Wye and gave the photo that title.
They have deleted some of the sarcastic comments and changed the story and photo label.
A short statement from the HT acknowledging this would be nice.

And Herefordian, I find that clicking on 'news' on the index banner thingy of the Hereford Times website brings up the current Hereford news quite effectively. Or do you mean that there's too much about the rest of Herefordshire? I'm sure the newspaper has never been intended to serve the city only.

The Hereford Times should be able to recognise the boarding in front of the OLM development in the centre of HEREford.
It's rather poor form to remove comments because they make you look a bit silly too.
Even if they are sarcastic.
Perhaps you could just laugh about it and reply to them saying how you've correcte the "disgraceful mistake" or whatever and you hope the posters aren't too upset.

I didn't know he was off.
Half term was spent fishing (not catching) on the Welsh Coast with the bin lids and the bread knife.
So in short.. Yes, rather stressful and I'm back at work for a rest now.
I wish the King all the best.

Journal also delivered to my door for free - reporting and coverage of most 'major' events pretty good. Do they have as many reporters as HT?
How much will the HT be this Thursday?
I'll have a quick look when I pick up my daily paper before work, but I shall not be buying if it's £1.20 again.

Where is Bobby these days? I feel I am facing a massive uphill battle at the moment without his contributions, especially as I have a day off work, today.

It's just that I sometimes apply a little thought to matters before posting.
Not that I'm defending most local newspapers' headlong rush into the whizzy world of constant blogging, instant insubstantial updates and frenetic web-engagement. It's a case of trying to do too much with too few resources and spreading out thin content with speculation and waffle of the likes which people post on these comments.
The HT's sister paper the Worcester News had a perfect example this morning with a 'live' stream about a relatively unexciting fire in a house. Apart from a couple of key details about a main road being closed, then later reopened, it was just a stream of random observations along the lines of "There's a fire ...... it's burning .... fire engines have arrived .... more fire engines have arrived .... there's still a fire ..... smoke can be seen coming from the fire ... firefighters are putting out the fire ......" and so on for several hours.
Papers can't win with some of you, can they? They put out stuff people are contacting them with as quickly as possible, and are accused of getting it wrong or incomplete. They don't rush to break the story online, and they're accused of ignoring 'real news'.

Trust me, if I could hack in, a large part of the irrelevant or unintelligible drivel some people come out with on this and other such sites would vanish instantly. Not because I agree or disagree, but just because these comment boards wander off at a tangent into the realms of fantasy, surreal nonsense or gibberish.

I empathise that they can't get bullet fast news out, I really do. But what we're talking about is very very very basic things. Typos, wrong place names, I mean most of the additional information can be found by a commenter within minutes, all we asking for is a bit of the actually research part of journalism.
For speed, there are ways to approach this within social media, some companies employ entire teams to sit on facebook all day because it is that much of an important platform.
All it takes is to monitor these platforms and respond ON THESE PLATFORMS whilst building a substantial article.
For example, you could have Hereford Futures say "Building one is complete!" at 10am, the HT could pick this up, pad it a little and retweet/refacebook this news within 5 minutes.
1 social media position is all it would take. This would relieve all of the journalists from spending their time rehashing badly constructed VERY short news pieces and, instead, concentrate on writing a solid article.

Surely there must be a balance here. A place for you both to sensibly discuss current issues and a haven for me to write the rubbish that no sane person would consider authoring or reading.
As for the comment, 'wandering off at a tangent'. That comment suggests that I wander off because I've no control. Rubbish! I do it all on purpose and I've never done it accidentally.
And finally the word unintelligible which has been used to describe my offerings toward the art of interesting posting? That's your view but ask yourselves this, ' is there anything that you write that lifts, elevates and touches the human need to laugh and be happy and make the daily misery of life a little easier to bear.
My very warmest regards.

As I've been wrestling with your recent Post I kept muttering, 'pull yourself together not everyone has a sense of humour. Why are you needled by this? And then I remembered and now it's fine.
This is what you do. You don't really make any comment upon news but you do make your bile laced comments and direct them at others in order to massage your own ego and then clear off. Mostly your criticism is aimed at writing styles, grammar, spelling and punctuation. That's your thing!
Anyway, back to my point. My memory...On the 19/10/12 Hfds child protection services ruled inadequate by ofsted.'
During that thread of news you did what you do. Ignored the news and commented upon us the Posters and our ability or lack of it to spell, punctuate and produce a grammatically correct piece of written work.
Yeah, I remember you!

bobby47 wrote:Many thanks for those kind words,Bobby, I also remember that story well, it was the catalyst for me to start posting. Sometimes the subject matter is too important to be sidetracked with comments about punctuation or grammatical errors. Most posters have a great sense of humour, and a bit of lively banter is enjoyed by all. Others seem to have an entirely different agenda......wether thats personal insults,or mean and vile posts. It would be nice to think that even when these things crop up,the majority of us can rise above it!!

Yes I do have a sense of humour, which is badly needed in todays world.

Its good to argue and object and have a different view. But, its how you do it. How you express it.
Look for example at our William Rudd!
He'll disagree with everyone and everything but we all treasure his view and look forward to it. I know I do. This site would'nt be the same if Will wasn't here or thereabouts.
Its not the disagreement or the objection to a view, its how you transmit it and just lately our little place, here on the HT site, has become a place for spite and bile and a place where you cant have an opinion for fear of offending someone and getting showered in phlegm.
So someone cant spell. So what if they disagree and have an opposite point of view. As long as you show a bit of restraint and respect for oneanother instead of shouting, 'racist, bigot, idiot or mocking oneanothers writing style, then it shouldnt matter.
If we aint careful this place will become a haven for those who simply want to argue and pour scorn on another.
What I did, in my recent response to Schiztrol was wrong and this latest outburst toward Interested Onlooker aint much better but, if we dont start objecting to rudeness and those simply looking to hurt anothers feelings, then this site will be taken over by those who dont cherish it as much as we do.
Plus, they dont want shot of bloody Jarvis as much as we do.
My best regards.

Take the foollowing as an exemplar of the problums that can be creatted:
Dear John,
I want a man who knows what love is all about. You are generous, kind, thoughtful. People who are not like you admit to being useless and inferior.
You have ruined me for other men. I yearn for you. I have no feelings whatsoever when we're apart. I can be forever happy - will you let me be yours?
Gloria
Change the punctuation and see what happens:
Dear John,
I want a man who knows what love is. All about you are generous, kind, thoughtful people, who are not like you. Admit to being useless and inferior.
You have ruined me. For other men, I yearn. For you, I have no feelings whatsoever. When we're apart, I can be forever happy. Will you let me be?
Yours,
Gloria

Wit and humorous banter are useful in any postings on this site.
We can all get a bit 'hot under the collar' at times when debating issues, so a little injection of words aimed at making us smile can help us all.
Thanks to all posters who try to temper their contributions with some wit.
By all means let us be serious when required, but we do not have to bite harshly when views are challenged.
