Protest at council budget meeting

LOCAL government union UNISON is picketing Herefordshire Council's Brockington HQ this morning ahead of a full council meeting to set the 2012/13 budget.

UNISON is challenging future job losses that come with the council's cuts programme.

The council is expected to back the budget plan that puts council tax up 1.9 per cent - just short of the two per cent rise that would trigger a referendum.

Councillors from the ruling Tory group are already inside Brockington being briefed ahead of the debate.

The result of the vote is expected around lunchtime.

Did they decide to bury 'Herefordshire Matters' with full military honours?

I think a viking funeral would be more appropriate - all unwanted copies of Hereford Matters gathered together, placed upon a raft, nattily woven by upstanding members of the guild of whitecross weavers(never miss an opportunity to showcase local talent)then set alight and allowed to float slowly down the Wye,whilst hundreds of locals stand at various vantage points, clapping, whis
tling and cheering. It would not be until a good few hours later, that anybody would realise that Jarvis was missing.......
