Clothing store Jingo latest to close its doors
12:00pm Monday 18th February 2013 in News By Adam Knight, Reporter
INDEPENDENT Hereford clothing retailer Jingo Clothing is the latest high street store to close its doors.
The men’s fashion shop, launched by Graham Warr 33 years ago, has ceased trading at its flagship location in High Town as young shoppers increasingly look to Worcester or online for their high-end brands.
Craig Lewis, who ran the Hereford store, is now focussing the company’s efforts on its new website to offer an alternative to Herefordshire shoppers.
“You look out the door and Hereford just gets older and older,” said Lewis.
“Our main demographic is 15 to 25-year-olds. Many have moved away, and more and more we’ve found they were travelling to Worcester anyway.
“It’s never welcome to close, and when you’ve been there so long it’ll be noticed, but it just made sense.”
Following a tough time for retail this latest closure is a further signal of the changing shopping habits of the younger generation.
Jake Smithers, aged 22, said: “Shopping online’s easier, but if I was in town I always had a browse in Jingo.
“It’s a loss because Jingo had decent brands – but online there are limitless brands at better prices.”
While Jingo’s shutters are closed in Hereford, trading continues at its Crowngate location in Worcester.

This is the most sensible and thought out thing the HT has written in months. All us commenters keep saying that Hereford is worthless, that people don't come here because of the parking and those that live in town shop in Worcester or Cardiff.
Thank you for finally acknowledging what we repeatedly say.

Despite the parking charges, the cratered roads and the general nothingness that currently exists, we've gotta think outside the box and get people to come and see us even if its to bear witness to our daily misery.
Imagine how many people would turn up to see, say, the man who could levitate.
Find a man who had this ability to defy gravity and levitate in front of the public and that would be a definite draw and attraction.
I'd come to Hereford to see that and a few, not all, but a few of my friends would definitely visit High Town to witness that extraordinary event.
It doesn't have to be a man who could levitate. I mean we'd be extremely fortunate to find such a man or a woman. Both sexes are equally able to seek the ability to levitate.
It could be something less strange but equally interesting. Take for example a man or a woman who suffered the stigmata. That would bring thousands into High Town. High Town would become a place for devout pilgrims who thirsted to see the gaping wounds brought on by the stigmata.
We could even consider cheating. We could grab hold of Jarvis, deliberately inflict the signs of the stigmata and then wheel him up Broad Street and into High Town. Mind, we'd have to gag him for he's sure to shout, 'the bloody Posters did this to me at the back of Boots'.
All Im saying is, we've gotta start coming up with some fresh ideas. If levitation or the stigmata ain't to your liking then come up with some other idea that's sure to get people visiting High Town.

We've all done that, and come to the conclusion shopping is much better outside of the box (Hereford).
The Bull statue seemed to bring in some spectators, the HC need to now embrace it as it's a great marketing tool. The HC don't want people climbing on it, drunk people taking photos whilst riding it bareback - when, in fact, that's exactly what you do want. You want people coming to Hereford and getting a photo with the Bull and then posting it online - make it something that people need to do whilst in Hereford. Social media is a very powerful tool.
You don't go to Chichen Itza and not have your photo taken in the ruins, or go to Boston and not have your photo outside the Cheers pub.

ere are plenty of other stories to get your teeth into,on the "public health" thread, some poor soul almost lost his dog down a pot hole, and on another, ideas are being put forward for a fond farewell to Hereford Matters. So many comments to post-o little times.....
And on another completely separate issue,Biomech did you ever do anything about your idea for tweeting about the traffic in Hereford?
