Charlie Baxter and Lizzy Jones raise money for Cancer Research UK
9:00am Saturday 16th February 2013 in News By Lydia Johnson
Charlie and Lizzy took to the waves for a charity swim.
TWO young girls found themselves in the deep end with their sponsored swim for charity.
Charlie Baxter and Lizzy Jones, both aged 10, swam one-mile of Hereford Swimming Pool to raise money for Cancer Research in support of Lizzy’s aunt Rosemary Ford, who has cancer.
The girls, who both attend Trinity Primary School in Hereford, raised £100 and agreed they weren’t at all tiredout following the swim.
Charlie said: “I just wanted to raise money for charity. I could have
kept on swimming as I wasn’t tired” while Lizzy said: “It was easy.”
Charlie’s mother Natalie said she was completely amazed by the girls’ efforts.
“When Charlie told me she was going to do a sponsored swim, I knew she could do it but I thought she would go off the idea.
“But I was so shocked when I found out she had set it up all by herself – she got in touch with the charity for a fund-raising pack and then collected all the money in.
"I just phoned the swimming pool to check it was all okay to go ahead. I’m just so proud of her.”
Lizzy’s mother, Alison, said she was ‘very pleased and very proud’ of her daughter.
