TK Maxx leaving Hereford city centre
2:03pm Wednesday 13th February 2013 in News By
TK MAXX is the latest retailer sold on Hereford’s old livestock market development, site developers Stanhope confirmed today (Wed).
Kate Bourne, for Stanhope, exclusively revealed to the Hereford Times that TX Maxx had had been looking to re-locate and would have “left town” if the opportunity to relocate had not been available – citing the restrictive nature of their current Maylords store as the main reason.
Next – located alongside TK Maxx in Maylords - takes up temporary residence in the Salmon Retail Park on Holmer Road while OLM construction is completed, expected to be in the summer of 2014 at the earliest.
Stanhope has again assured local businesses that attracting new retailers to the site was central to their plans, and that council restrictions ensured a number of High Town businesses would be unable to make the move.
Reaction among those city centre businesses remains mixed; some concerned over the disappearance of high street staples, others keen to expand on the larger sites offered by the new project.

I ain't saying Im right. Perhaps I and others are wrong and Princer, William and Mayor D are right in thinking its a good thing.
I cannot for the life of me understand where the Council and Stanhope are going with this thought process.
As things stand at the moment, High Town business rates are crippling trade, few people come to High Town, the parking charges are increasing, there are few quick and easy routes
into the City, we've got potholes you could hide a fridge in and we've only a few bloody toilets.
Surely I ain't wrong. This logic is a recipe for disaster (excuse the pun Major D). The logical conclusion to this present logic is the shops that can survive in High Town will do the same as TK Max and move to the new place a few hundred yards away and leave an empty place and add to the rot that has already taken a firm hold within High Town.
Honestly and I ain't being argumentative, I cannot see the logic in the route we are set upon and economically it makes no sense other than the builders have got something to build.
And once it's built. Then what happens? We've no established infra structure, shopping habits have changed and once the grants and financial incentives end, these businesses, if they come or can survive, will clear off and we lose.
We lose. There's no other outcome to this path that we are set upon. We lose
And our kids pick up the bill for our reckless decisions.
Honestly, I cannot understand the logic behind these plans and schemes that are economically flawed.

free parking/easy access
their takings will go through the roof.
or move to a nice brand new shop
with expensive parking/terrible access/lower footfall/ and lower takings.
Hmmmmm...what would you do?

Secondly, I don't know how many times I'm going to have to repeat myself - no one is *against* the OLM, we are against the way it's being done.
All of these shops are moving to the OLM when they said they wouldn't. Fine. But let's switch on our brains for 2 seconds at least.
We are getting very few NEW shops. What is happening is that current shops are moving. And that's all well and fine. But when TK Maxx has moved out and the Odeon cinema is empty - all you have left is a derelict, empty high town.
It is now increasingly clear that what the OLM project is is a way for the HC to scrap Hereford completely and start again with a clean slate somewhere else - albeit close to the centre.

I mean, look at us! View our increasingly erratic writing styles! Weve descended into a place where we are now considering knocking a hole through from our One Screen Cinema into a bloody nightclub, where, presumably well be met by a gathering of Morris Dancers wassailing to Adam Ants rock anthem Prince bloody Charming.
That its come to this. A kick in the testicles to stop us moaning and groaning.
I for one am open to any suggestions. Perhaps stalls in High Town offering this service to disgruntled male Posters who are tired of moaning about this bloody Council may be the final solution to our woes.
You'd quietly excuse yourself from your daily labours, wander into High Town and view what's on other to stop one moaning.
For my part, I'd consider the price for this kicking, the statue and physique of the kicker and more importantly the type of boot and how many lace holes this footwear had behind its momentum.
Then, after the kicking, you'd wander back to your workplace purged of the need or desire to Post another message cursing this Council and their chaotic decision making that is bringing about our certain ruin.
Thinking about it more, this idea of a kick in the love spuds may just be our way forward and would most certainly provide new jobs, new business and an entirely different answer to our economic problems.
Yes! Perhaps this is the way forward. I mean, you rarely see a man who's been kicked in the testicles rushing to his laptop intent on hurling bile and fiery rhetoric at the Council. More like a deafening silence and a thoughtful tear rolling down your fat face.

But consider this - if society wasn't full of so many stupid people, we wouldn't have anything to complain about.

Thinking the worse , wondering if the Coffee Cart was being dragged across to the Market site I opened the email -
Thank goodness it was from BT telling me that they are updating my local exchange soon.
The Retail Migration Team would appear be the correct name for the Town Centre Management .

The town centre needs re doing before the cattle market is built.
And, what will happen if ever Tesco do leave their town centre site- which is highly probable in the future as they will never close their Belmont store.
Tesco have been muttering about this for some time now.

Princer wrote:Enough of this myth that you save money going to Worcester for the cinema.
Odeon cinema, I went there last summer and nearly died in the process it must of been mid 30s in there and 100% humidity, the sooner it goes the better especially when it's cheaper at Worcester with air conditioning.
Hereford's single screen Odeon currently costs £8.80 for a standard ticket. Vue in Worcester charges £9, so definitely no saving there, and Worcester's multi-screen Odeon is only 30p less than you would pay to go to the cinema in Hereford (and that is only because they do a better trade due to having 7 screens). Why are people so sure that the price won't be the same when our 6 screen cinema is built? And why do people forget the cost of travelling to Worcester when claiming that they're saving money? I don't believe that it's possible to travel to Worcester for 29p or less...

There is a good atmosphere, you can have a drink, or eat a meal.
Give it a go - the Courtyard is a fantastic place that needs to be used, it's also subject to funding cuts so more people need to support it.

I don't know about anyone else, but I don't go to Worcester cinemas for the cost, I go there for the better facilities and the "day out" aspect. In fact, we used to enjoy a Burger King while we were there as there has never been one near Hereford.

They are destroying our City centre and there is nothing that we can do to stop this madness.
Is it me? Is it us? Perhaps we are a bunch of moaners and groaners who see this entire project through the wrong bloody lens!
This is economic madness and there is no sense, reason, common purpose or any plan whatsoever that is going to bring life into High Town.
