Update: All hospital wards re-opened following vomiting bug outbreak

WARDS at Herefordshire hospitals have re-opened following an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.

The Leadon and Arrow wards at Hereford County Hospital and wards at Ross-on-Wye and Bromyard community hospitals have re-opened.

The hospitals have been given the all-clear after being deep-cleaned, which takes at least half a day to complete and includes cleaning every single item on the ward.

 

Alison Johnson, consultant microbiologist at Wye Valley NHS Trust, said: “We are very pleased to announce that the affected wards at our hospitals have re-opened to visitors. 

"However, we must not be complacent and in order to prevent a further outbreak we are urging our staff members, visitors, and outpatients to please stay away if they have experienced diarrhoea and/or vomiting in the last 48 hours. 

“If you do need to visit or attend hospital remember to practice good hand hygiene and use the alcohol gels available in all wards/departments.

“We wish to thank our patients and visitors for their understanding and co-operation during this period and to emphasise that these restrictions were put in place to protect our patients, as part of a zero tolerance approach to healthcare associated infections at Wye Valley NHS Trust”.
