Top sport facility plan for Hereford park
1:00pm Saturday 9th February 2013 in News
DETAILED plans for a major new sports venue in Hereford have been revealed.
An application to make Aylestone Park a big player on the local leisure scene is due to be submitted to planners within the next month.
The plan is backed by a new partnership for the park set up after more than a year of negotiations between Herefordshire Council, the Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canal Trust and Hereford United Community Trust (HUCT).
Together, the new partners will work on setting up community sports and recreation facilities originally envisaged when the compulsory purchase order for the park site and adjacent section of the canal was approved.
HUCT, a separate organisation from Hereford United Football Club, develops opportunities for young people in sport.
The overall plan envisages a “first-class” sports facility including a matchquality football pitch, an all-weather pitch, a multiuse community centre, changing rooms and a large sports and informal public recreational area.
If planning permission is approved, the facility would be run by HUCT.
