Hereford's 'Mr Chips' dies aged 88

THE man who was known as Mr Chips in Hereford has died at the age of 88.

Ken Williams, from Aylestone Hill, set up the fish and chip shop in Commercial Road in 1972, before handing it over to his son Alan.

The 88-year-old also helped renovate the Stagecoach pub, building shops and flats near the site, and owned the former City Walls restaurant in St Owen Street.

He is survived by his wife Lenora, daughter Elaine, son Alan, four grandchildren and four great-children.

His funeral is at Hereford Crematorium on Monday at 11.15am, followed by a wake at Saxtys.
