Three to contest Ross by-election seat

THREE candidates are to fight it out for a county council seat during a by-election later this month.

Caroline Bennett, representing the Liberal Democrats, will battle it out with Richard Mayo of the Conservatives and independent contender David Ravenscroft for the Ross-on-Wye West seat on January 24.

The position became vacant following the death of Conservative Councillor Gordon Lucas in November.

Lib Dems have become 'toxic' since the tuition fee farce. An Independent vote has been tarnished by Bill Longmore's antics so a probable Tory win I would think ...

Ross wants the best person to represent the town and it's people,
Politics should not be part of the decision who to vote.

Unfortunately when issues are voted on today, even where they are local, the overall party policy is invariably taken and the locals ignored. I would have thought an independent representative would be best in the present climate. After all you rarely get two independents councillors who say the same thing which is more than the other political parties can say.

May the best candidate win and perhaps lead by example and take no expenses. Whoever it is, Gordon Lucas will be a hard act to follow in representing his town so well.

The current administration has failed to serve the county even adequately, and particularly the most vulnerable are suffering from cuts to essential services while pay for senior managers and council tax goes up. Only an independent councillor can tip the balance against the failing administration across the whole county.

I agree Gordan Lucas will be a hard act to follow, but I have heard so many people say "my old father said vote ??? and you won't go far wrong" which is why I say keep politics out of local government,vote for the best person to represent the town's intersts.

I always thought Ross was in Herefordshire?
Or does It's Our County only seek to represent certain areas or agendas?
