Ambulance crews busy on New Year's Eve

PARAMEDICS were called to 32 emergencies in Herefordshire in the first five hours of 2013.
West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) said that a large proportion of them were for alcohol-related incidents, including fights, assaults, falls and overdoses.
From 8pm to midnight on New Year’s Eve, ambulance crews were called to six incidents in the county.
Overall, WMAS received an average of five 999 calls every 60 seconds after midnight, with 1,291 being made in the first five hours of 2013 (an increase of nine per cent) and 638 from 8pm to midnight on New Year's Eve (an increase of 15 per cent).
