3pm update: Dr Simon Murphy (Labour) has been eliminated after netting only 25.7% of the vote.
Independent Bill Longmore was ahead with 37.8% of the vote, with Conservative candidate Adrian Blackshaw was a close second with 36.5%.
The West Mercia count started in Shrewsbury at 10.30am and results are expected in this afternoon.
Across the border in Wales, Conservative candidate Christopher Salmon has been named the first Police and Crime Comissioner for Dyfed-Powys. His role will cover policing in Hay-on-Wye, Presteigne and Knighton.
