Solar panels to go on Herefordshire's public buildings
6:00pm Thursday 1st November 2012 in News
Herefordshire Council is to install solar panels on a number of public buildings including schools and offices, leisure facilities and libraries.
The council has shortlisted 36 buildings across the county that might be suitable.
Further structural studies need to be carried out to check whether the panels can be fitted safely, but the results should be known by the new year.
The scheme, first announced at Greenearth Energy’s 10th anniversary party during h.Energy week, follows the lead of Hereford Crematorium, where solar panels have already been fitted and are expected to save the local authority £5,000 per year.
Councillor Russell B Hamilton, Herefordshire Council cabinet member for environment, housing and planning, said: “We have made a commitment to what will represent a massive project that will not only reduce our energy costs and generate an income from the feed-in tariff but to reduce carbon emissions in line with our objective to be a low carbon county.”
