Homeowners urged to test their smoke alarms this weekend

PEOPLE are urged to test their smoke alarms this weekend when the clocks go back.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) say that many people remember to turn the clock back an hour, but not to check their smoke alarms.

"It's clear that the act of testing your smoke alarm needs to be part of your household routing and we'd urge people to add this simple check to their clock-change routine this weekend," said Station Commander Alan Haley from HWFRS.

"Everyone soon notices when a clock stops ticking, but it's not so obvious when smoke alarms stop working.

"Push the button on your smoke alarm this weekend as you change your clocks and you can look forward to not only an extra hour's sleep, but also the peace of mind knowing that the smoke alarm is in working order."
