A KINGTON teenager who cares for her sick mother has received a Good Citizen award from the police.

Anastasia Weir suffers from a disability herself but still manages to look after her mother, who has multiple health problems and disabilities, meaning that she cannot walk more than a few steps unaided.

The 15-year-old, who has Aspergers Syndrome, was recently presented with a Young Good Citizen award from West Mercia Police at the force’s HQ in Worcester.

Jessica Lannigan, from Leominster, was given the same honour in recognition of her volunteering.

The 17-year-old Earl Mortimer College student helps youngsters from Westfield School to participate in sport. She is also involved with the school’s learning support unit.

Jess and Anastasia were each presented with a certificate and a £100 gift voucher for Amazon.

Deputy Chief Constable Simon Chesterman said: “By recognising our winners, we hope to strengthen the relationship between the police and young people.”

Wouldn't a gift voucher for a local Company be better than Amazon ?

Try to put yourself in the place of a fifteen year-old living in Kington - what would you suggest she spent the money on?
