Man entered Hereford travel agency demanding money with 'bomb in his bag'
12:14pm Wednesday 24th October 2012 in News By Lydia Johnson
A MAN is wanted for attempted robbery after he entered a Hereford travel agency demanding money, saying he had a bomb in his bag.
The man, described as white, in his early 40s, around 5ft 8ins tall and wearing a baseball cap and dark clothing, entered Thomson travel agency on St Peter's Street at around 5.25pm yesterday (Tuesday October 23)
He approached the bureau de change and passed a note over the counter demanding money, and said he had a bomb in his bag.
The cashier fled and the man quickly retrieved the note and left the store.
Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101.

And Gillian1961's sympathetic suggestion that the "poor chap" would be better off threatening and terrorising staff of other establishments would no doubt be music to their ears, too.
Armed or violent thuggery is just so amusing, isn't it? Bank and building society staff everywhere will be splitting their sides.
Don't even get me stated on the fact that there is not one shred of information in the police description which would lead to any logical supposition about the offender's nationality.

If it can be established that the suspect had only one leg or some other interesting disability and perhaps had a couple of mating buzzards as travelling companions then I really do think that this can lead to a successful detection.

The police appeal is as it is stated in the original news story above, and in detecting a potentially serious crime I would strongly urge people to read it without being distracted by the utter nonsense posted below it.
Making up details which are not part of the police description is distracting, confusing and entirely unnecessary.
I sincerely hope that bobby47, biomech and Gillian1961 are never the victims of serious crime, but if they are unfortunate enought to suffer, that they will appreciate the benefits of a clear and accurate appeal for information via the local media.
How would they feel if people on a website subsequently took it lightly, made up distracting nonsense that had nothing to do with the incident, and confused any potential witnesses? Or if a subsequent arrest or prosecution failed because of that?
Of course, sometimes the reported events may sound a little odd or unusual to parties not involved. But workers in banks, building societies, bureaux de change etc are often left very traumatised by robberies and attempted robberies. Even when a heist is unsuccessful it is rarely because they know for sure that an assailant is bluffing about being armed.
I am appalled that these comments have even been allowed on this story by the Hereford Times and my heartfelt sympathies go to the staff of Thomsons' bureau de change for any offence caused by them.

I despair.

Now all we have to do is convince Nick to secure the mating buzzards to his arm, disconnect his hideous bomb and give himself up.
Nickt, don't worry about making yourself understood at the Police Station. They have Greek interpreters and staff who are trained to care for a man with one leg.
I knew we'd get to the bottom of this tale.

I'll not sit by and watch my good name dragged through the mud.
If I get a knock at the door and I get nicked for this I'm going to blame a fellow Poster.
