Litter campaign kicks off

A CAMPAIGNER hoping to clean up Hereford's streets wants to bring about a litter revolution in the city.

Kip Waistell has formed Hereford Against Litter (HALT) in a bid to stop the littering of Hereford.

"I want to bring about a revolution in Hereford regarding litter," said Mr Waistell.

"In France, Switzerland and Germany people have civic pride and they are less inclined to drop litter in the first place "They have pride in their surroundings which unfortunately we don't."

HALT is organising a litter pick on April 1 and anyone interested in helping can contact Mr Waistell on kipcarwaistell@hotmail.com Volunteers can meet outside Marks and Spencer at 5pm.

I gather the Council have people to enforce litter. It was in the Hereford Times last year. I think they were trumpeting the fact that they had 'warned' about 20 people for dropping cigarette butts. All they need to do is dole out a few fixed penalties. And not for cigarette butts which is pretty pointless. I'm on about crisp packets and chip papers. And on the subject of litter I'm pretty fed up now with that mini sweeper that constantly drives around High Town ALL DAY dodging shoppers. Its noisy and over the top.
