AM Since - 1999 Majority - 4,864 Born - 26/04/1957. Married, 1 daughter.
Education - Gowerton Girls Grammar School.
Previous Occupation - Worked in Banking, was President of the Banking, Insurance, and Finance Union. Trade Union Official with Wales TUC (Chairman 1997-98). Member of the TGWU and ISTC.
Personal Overview - Entered the National Assembly after a background as a Trade Union Official initially in the Banking sector and latterly at the Welsh TUC. Her former involvement in the Equal Opportunities Commission and Committee Chairmanship indicate an interest in Equal Opportunities issues. Initial Cabinet post remit widened in the October 2000 reshuffle to include Housing, and the assembly's relationship with Local Government and the Police authorities. Remained within the Cabinet during the 2003-07 Parliament and retained a Cabinet post after the 2007 elections. Stood for the leadership of the Welsh Labour Party in Autumn 2009 after the decision of Rhodri Morgan to stand down.

Personal Overview - Elected at the 2009 elections from 1st place on the party's list in Wales. Has political experience at Local Government level and Prior to joining UKIP was an ex Labour Party member, served as an Independent Councillor and later as a member of the Referendum Party. Has subsequently stood for the party at both Welsh Assembly and Westminster elections. Was active during the 2004-09 European Parliamentary term as an advisor for one time party Leader Roger Knapman who was an MEP in the South West Region. Has advised the UKIP Wales Committee, advancing to become Vice Chairman of UKIP in Wales. During his election campaign he also attempted to target some of the traditional Labour anti European vote as well as support from Trade Union members.

Personal Overview - Elected as one of the youngest members of the Welsh Assembly in 2007. She has shown concern at the public perception of politicians and would like to play a role in changing their perceived image as well as promoting youth involvement in politics. She has been involved in a number of campaigns, including Aberystwyth Peace and Justice Network. She has also been a member of the Welsh Language Society's Senate and has been a President of Aberystwyth Guild of Students. Her political interests also include higher education and safeguarding local services.
