Previous Occupation - Worked in Banking, was President of the Banking, Insurance, and Finance Union. Trade Union Official with Wales TUC (Chairman 1997-98). Member of the TGWU and ISTC.
Personal Overview - Entered the National Assembly after a background as a Trade Union Official initially in the Banking sector and latterly at the Welsh TUC. Her former involvement in the Equal Opportunities Commission and Committee Chairmanship indicate an interest in Equal Opportunities issues. Initial Cabinet post remit widened in the October 2000 reshuffle to include Housing, and the assembly's relationship with Local Government and the Police authorities. Remained within the Cabinet during the 2003-07 Parliament and retained a Cabinet post after the 2007 elections. Has subsequently stood for the party at both Welsh Assembly and Westminster elections. Was active during the 2004-09 European Parliamentary term as an advisor for one time party Leader Roger Knapman who was an MEP in the South West Region.
