THE current exhibition at The Arts Space at Hereford College of Arts features the work of four artists-in-residence at the end of their tenure as participants in the ‘Artists Access to Art Colleges’ (AA2A) scheme. AA2A is funded by the Arts Council England through the National Lottery Grants for the Arts programme, and enables artists and craftspeople to work on their own projects or research within the college’s specialist workshops and studios. This year four artists, Adrian Shiel, Ita Drew, Ruaraidh Monies and Shannon Donovan, took part. “The work I have created during this residence is a work in progress for my solo show at Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre in July later this year,” said Ita Drew, a graduate of the college’s BA (Hons) Contemporary Applied Arts course. “I used my residency to experiment with woodcarving and largescale ceramics, as I do not have these facilities outside the college.” Adrian Shiel: “I am selftaught with no formal art education. This illustrates why the AA2A scheme is so beneficial in allowing access not only to facilities, but to expert advice and support.” The exhibition runs until Thursday, May 2, open Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4.30pm.
