BY a happy chance, one of the most significant figures in contemporary British art was in the audience at last year’s inaugural Glasbury Arts annual arts lecture, Clarrie Wallis, the Tate’s curator of contemporary British art joined a relative to attend a hugely wellreceived lecture about the artists of the Llanthony Valley.
So impressed was she with the lecture that, when Glasbury Arts’ John Fitzgerald asked if she would deliver this year’s, she readily agreed.
Clarrie’s lecture will reveal exactly what is involved in buying art for the nation and in curating exhibitions by many of the leading figures on the contemporary art scene, including Damien Hirst, Richard Long and Cerith Wyn Evans. She will also offer an insight into why contemporary British art has enjoyed such great success over the last 15 years.
Tickets, for the lecture on Saturday, January 21, are £16/£13 to include refreshments and lunch, are available by telephone on 01497 847426; in person at Old Forest Arts, The Craft Centre, Hay-on-Wye; or by email to boxoffice@glasburyart.
