A NEW exhibition by artist Wayne Summers opens tomorrow in the Gallery at The Courtyard.

Wayne creates 'aesthetic, expressionist responses' to Shakespeare’s texts, using them as a source material for paintings.

Having studied at the West London Institute and Oxford Polytechnic, Wayne, who works primarily as a graphic designer, has lived on the North Staffordshire moors, Bristol, London and the Netherlands but has now settled in Herefordshire.

Three years ago he had his first solo show in over twenty years at Llanover Hall, Cardiff. Since then he has shown at MOMA Wales, The Bohunk Institute Nottingham, The Sidney Nolan Trust and the Herefordshire Open; he has also participated in Made in Herefordshire and the Three Choirs Festival at The Courtyard.

“My paintings are not abstractions; but through figurative symbols and external references, are amenable of multiple connotations, even when there may be a stated object – in this instance, Shakespearean texts,” says Wayne.

The exhibition runs until January 25, 9am to late Monday to Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sundays. Entry is free.
