SOUND Canvas, an exhibition by artist Zoe Partington opens at The Courtyard tomorrow.

The exhibition was originally commissioned for The Public in West Bromwich by Dash Arts, and is a multi-sensory installation named Sound Canvas which is made in collaboration with Andrej Bako. Sound Canvas allows the audience to interact with artwork through sensors and digital technology, with the work triggered by motion enabling each gallery visitor to create their own individual experience.

Sound Canvas won Zoe, who lost her sight at the age of 24, an award for innovation in digital accessibility in 2013. Zoe, who has worked on creativity in disability arts for the last 20 years, comments: “I have always been intrigued by the viewer’s perception of art since studying and engaging in the theoretical and interpretive side of how people see. I am also quite fascinated by how galleries and curators wish us to view an art work and how we learn the rules to see visual information.

“I have spent many years observing and engaging with art works with the limited sight that I have and this has influence how I create my own ideas”.

Sound Canvas is in the gallery space on the top floor at The Courtyard until Friday, October 19. Open during normal opening hours.
