PETER Brown, one of the UK's leading wood engravers, will be at The Sidney Nolan Trust this summer for a three day wood-engraving workshop.

Wood engraving is a quiet, contemplative process, yet one that often results in characteristically strong images. It expresses with equal power landscapes and the human form, narrative illustrations and the political statement. It enjoys a deep tradition in Britain. Of all artists’ printing methods, wood engraving has the advantage of needing the least equipment and demands minimal ink and small quantities of solvent, so there is little mess.

Together these qualities make it very suitable for the keen amateur.

This three day course will be ideal for those with some previous drawing experience and who would like to print, but it is not necessary to have any previous experience of printmaking.

Peter Brown has illustrated a weekly wildlife column for the Times for the past 20 years.

The workshop runs from Thursday, July 3 to Saturday, July 5. To book, or for further information, email info@sidneynolantrust.org
