LEADING Welsh ceramicist Lowri Davies will provide an insight into the creation of her stunning work at this year’s Annual Art Lecture in Glasbury-on-Wye.

Using a combination of Powerpoint slides and examples of her work, Lowri, who was awarded a Gold Medal in Applied Arts at the National Eisteddfod in Wales in 2009, will reveal how she came to work in ceramics, what inspires her and what is involved in the process of making her work.

Among the inspirations she will talk about is her own Welsh heritage, a major element in her work. Vibrant illustrations of birds, traditional landscapes, flora and fauna adorn the distinctive slip-cast bone china tableware for which she is renowned.

Her tea sets, vessels and vases also reference established ceramic tableware such as Nantgarw and Swansea porcelain and ceramic souvenirs.

Ceramics and Me: The Glasbury Arts Annual Art Lecture with Lowri Davies is on Saturday, January 18, 2014. The day starts at 10.30am with coffee, the lecture will be given from 11am to 12.30pm and a buffet lunch served afterwards.
