TINSMITHS in Ledbury is currently hosting an exhibition of wood engravings by Stroud-based artist Andrew Davidson.
Andrew was commissioned by Bloomsbury, publishers of Harry Potter, to create covers for a new edition of the books, published this month. The commission allowed Andrew to print a limited edition of 20 of each of the engravings, the full set of which can be seen at Tinsmiths until October 12.
The illustrations were created by printing hand crafted wood engravings onto Japanese paper, “which seemed to create the perfect effect,” he says. “I wanted them to look as if they had come straight from the pages of a book taken from the library at Hogwarts.”
Textile and wallpaper company Lewis and Wood share the exhibition, and have worked closely with Andrew to produce papers and cloths using his engraved designs.
The exhibition runs at Tinsmiths, 8a High Street, Ledbury, and is open 10am to 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday.
