ARTIST Susan Horth is visiting Iapetus Gallery in Great Malvern next month as part of h.Art week, with an exhibition of jewellery and sculpture celebrating the natural beauty of British wildlife.
The exhibition, entitled The Ark of Suburbia, will showcase the extraordinary and intricately detailed birds, insects and animals that Susan makes by hand with fine knitted wire and beads.
The inspiration for this work comes from her own garden - the space that Susan calls her ‘small Eden’ among the concreted- over gardens of suburbia.
‘This collection is about my love for a place on the edge of change,’ says Susan, ‘It’s a garden I have known since childhood, which was once well-tended and has now gone wild.’ Mice, foxes, birds, insects and butterflies are among the familiar creatures captured in Susan’s lifelike work, with the delicate wirework and tiny, colourful beading highlighting the preciousness of these everyday animals.
The exhibition opens on Saturday, September 7 at iapetus gallery in Great Malvern and runs until Saturday, September 28.
The pieces will also be available to view and buy online at iapetus.co.uk from September 7.
