EACH year, the h.Art steering group awards one or more Young Artist Bursaries to artists under 30 who have chosen to live and work in the county, aiming to support young artists and provide an incentive to pursue art as a rewarding career choice, particularly in Herefordshire.

This year two bursaries were awarded, to Grace Bentley- Leek and to Will Carr.

Grace, 22 from Much Birch is a Hereford Cathedral School graduate, continuing to study Fine Art at UCA, Farnham.

Particularly taken with pencil drawing and watercolour, Grace enjoys the intricacies of fine lines, detail and simplicity but also gets a thrill out of using luminous, clashing watercolours. Grace creates exhilarating landscape pieces as well as more surreal works derived from her love of Herefordshire.

Grace is sharing an Open Studio in Whitchurch with multi-award winning designer Jan Knibbs, who makes sensationa lpieces incorporating her signature style of embroidery with vintage finds.

Will Carr, 26 lives in Weobley.

Having grown up on a farm, Will taught himself to weld and realised his instinctive, natural ability in handling raw materials - skills honed by his time studying Civil Engineering at The University of Nottingham. Will has since teamed his practical knowledge with a fascination for the world around him, resulting in his large scale steel sculptures.

Will is exhibiting at h.Art 2012 with The Wickton Creative in Stoke Prior, a group of 10 artists and makers with work covering textiles, turned wood, photography, printmaking and painting.

h.Art runs from September 7 to 15. More details from h.art.org.uk.
