DEVELOPED by The Courtyard’s Arts and Older People project coordinator Alice Saunders and Councillor Russell B Hamilton of Herefordshire Council, the Rural Pub Arts Hub is a project aimed at bringing accessible beginners’ art classes for the over- 60s to rural pubs.

The New Inn at St Owens Cross will hold free sessions led by local artist Jeanette McCulloch looking at watercolour painting, drawing and painting with watercolour pencils and water-soluble fibre tip pens. The class will then work towards creating a mural as their end project. At the second venue, the Tump Inn in Wormelow, Hereford College of Arts graduate Penny Allen will work on collage, stitched imagery and markmaking culminating in each participant creating their own artist’s book at the end of the course.

Sessions, which run for 10 weeks, are aimed at those with no previous experience, but those with experience are also encouraged to come along and develop their skills. The project is focused on bringing communities together to try something new, and on using community venues in a new and unique way.

Places for both arts sessions are limited, so booking is essential. To book a place or for more information on either of the two sessions, call Alice Saunders on 01432 340555 or email alice.saunders@ courtyard.org.uk Sessions at the New Inn, St Owens Cross are on Mondays, starting on July 22 from 10.30am to 12.30pm. The Tump Inn sessions start on Friday, July 26, 10.30am to 12.30pm.
