SHAKESPEARE AUDITIONS WYE Theatre Company is looking for actors for the spring production of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, which will be touring Herefordshire in early May.
The production is part of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Open Stages project, involving hundreds of amateur companies around the UK, and opens up the possibility of acting on the new stage at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Director Mary Fielding said: “It is a controversial play because it can be seen as mysogynistic. Petruchio treats Katherina appallingly to “tame” her – but it is also funny and witty and a love story.”
Open auditions are being held at The Powell Theatre on Church Street, Hereford, on Monday and Tuesday at 7.30pm.
To find out more, visit wyetheatre.co.uk or contact Mary Fielding on 01531 670389.
THERE will be a read-through of Lionel Bart’s musical Blitz on Wednesday, February 22, at the Phoenix Theatre in Ross-on-Wye.
Gordon and Mary Brigg are joining forces to put on the show in July, and they will be joined by Richard Watson who is the accompanist of the Phoenix Theatre Singers.
The production is open to all comers and there are lots of parts, big and small, singing and/or acting, covering a wide age range, – about 36 in all including the chorus members.
The read-through is at 7.30pm, when there will also be a chance to listen to some of the music.
Auditions will follow on March 7 at 7.30pm.
