Treasure Island in West Malvern Village Hall

THE panto season continues with sword fights, custard pies, juggling and plenty of song and dance in West Malvern next weekend.

West Malvern Players present Treasure Island in the form of Richard Lloyd’s interpretation of the Robert Louis Stevenson classic, which promises to be great entertainment for all the family with original music and some sing along classics.

The exciting adventure, which was first published in 1883, tells the tale of young Jim Hawkins, who lives with his parents at the Admiral Benbow Inn, and how he finds himself entangled with pirates in a quest for hidden treasure on a distant island. Along the way he encounters mutiny in full effect, crazy old sailors and lone adventures.

Director David Matthews, who appears in the production as Long John, hopes for lots of audience participation to create a real community atmosphere.

He said: “Treasure Island should be a traditional and fun evening for all ages. With a pantomime dame played by local favourite Andy Dakin, a principal boy played by Andy’s wife Sue Dakin, a young heroine played by local youngster Jessy Harper-Solomon, a pack of evil pirates, some crazy Spaniards, a squire, a sea captain and a whole cast of local talent of all ages.

“It promises to be a real village evening, with hopefully plenty of audience participation to hiss the villains and cheer the good guys.”

The pantomime runs from Thursday to Saturday, January 12-14, in West Malvern Village Hall, with performances at 7pm on Thursday and Friday and 6pm on Saturday. Tickets cost £5 for adults and £3 for children. For more information and tickets, call 01684 567328.
