FEDERICO Garcia Lorca’s savage yet lyrical play Yerma tells the story of a woman who suffers the heartbreaking social torment of a childless marriage that forces her to commit a horrific and irrevocable act. It's a story that is reimagined in a unique new dance/theatre performance coming to The Courtyard on Wednesday, April 6.
The performance is set to the Indian neoclassical dance form, Kathak, and performed to spectacular live music with tabla, cello and vocals featuring world-renowned musicians.
Originally set in rural patriarchal Spain in the 19th century, Yerma is made relevant by Amina Khayyam Dance Company to ensure this very topical tale resonates with modern and diverse British audiences.
Yerma is part of The Courtyard’s Extravaganza season; audiences can get 10 per cent off when booking tickets for two or more Extravaganza-themed shows.
Yerma will be at The Courtyard on Wednesday, April 6 at 7.30pm. To book, call the box office on 01432 340555 or visit courtyard.org.uk
