THE Courtyard Senior Youth Theatre will be on stage at The Courtyard next week with a brand new piece of drama commemorating the Great War.

HeRo is an explosive and emotionally charged piece which uncovers stories of love, struggle, violence and, above all, courage from local people who fought in the war or were equally heroes on the home front.

The Youth Theatre have worked with playwright James Baldwin to create the play from real life stories of people from this county, with the title of the piece devised in tribute to the Herefordshire Regiment.

This project has been made possible by funding from the Heritage Lottery (whose Then & Now programme supports community projects commemorating the Great War) and has involved working with Hereford Library, local museums and historians from the county to build a big picture as they research the work.

David Durant, associate director at The Courtyard, said, “This new production explores a subject that touches all of us in some way or another. It is a truly local production, based on local stories and performed by a group of Senior Youth Theatre members aged from 16 to 19. It will be a really good insight into WWI and how it affected local people.”

HeRo will be at The Courtyard from Thursday, July 16 to Saturday, July 18 at 7.30pm, with a matinee performance on Saturday, July 18 at 2.30pm. To book, call the box office on 01432 340555 or visit courtyard.org.uk.

This performance includes very strong language and images some audience members may find disturbing.
