Footloose hits the right note

11:45am Thursday 29th March 2007

FOR energy, enthusiasm and infectiousness, Footloose, back at Cardiff's Wales Millennium Centre until April 7 is hard to beat. From the moment the music kicks in, this story of the town where dancing is banned picks you up and keeps you with it, toes tapping all the way.

By the time the finale arrived, the auditorium was on its feet, ready to "kick off their Sunday shoes" and dancing in the aisles.

Fans of the movie might find it hard to imagine anyone other than Kevin Bacon in the role of Ren McCormack. But with masses of energy, Tommy Sherlock wisely avoided the trap of going for an impression of Bacon's performance and created his own.

Miria Parvin gave Ariel just the right sense of edgy vulnerability, with great support from Gemma O'Duffy, Malinda Parris and Lisa Gorgin.

With the right blend of tear-jerking moments, humour and high-octane dance numbers, Footloose really hits the spot.

My 10-year-old daughter was transfixed throughout and her verdict as she danced across the piazza outside WMC was "Fab!"
