BIRMINGHAM theatre company Little Earthquake rumbles into The Courtyard on Saturday, February 3, as part of a regional tour of their production, Gogol's Madma.
The show is based on a short story by Russia's weirdest little genius Nikolai Gogol and funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
Little Earthquake was founded in autumn 2004 by actor Gareth Nicholls, who has written and performs the show.
His company aims to unearth the curious and unusual stories that lurk unnoticed in our culture or hide themselves away in the neglected corners of our collective imaginations.
Gogol's Diary of a Madman, on which the production is based, is one of literature's first and most beguiling accounts of man's descent into madness and features many of the images, motifs and private obsessions which haunted Gogol's life and work.
Shadows seem twice as long as they should be, inanimate objects take on hideous personalities of their own, overcoats spring to life and secret codes and conspiratorial messages are found everywhere.
