A NEW event has been added to the Abergavenny Food Festival’ special event programme as Jay Rayner, restaurant critic for the Observer for more than 15 years, presents My Dining Hell..

Having written reviews of well over 700 establishments, one thing he’s learnt it is that while readers like reviews, they really love reviews of bad restaurants. They adore them, feast upon them like starving vultures who have spotted fly-blown carrion out in the bush.

In My Dining Hell, Jay examines our love affair with lousy reviews, rants about his most hated restaurant fads, lists his bottom five most excruciating nights out and – just to balance things – reads from the worst reviews his own work has ever received. A hugely entertaining journey in the company of the man recently voted the best food and drink journalist in Britain.

Jay is also the resident food expert on the BBC's One Show, a regular judge on Masterchef and chair of BBC Radio 4’s Kitchen Cabinet. His latest book is A Greedy Man In A Hungry World: How (almost) everything you thought you knew about food is wrong.

My Dining Hell takes place on Friday, September 19 at 5.30pm at The Borough Theatre, Abergavenny. Tickets only available online at abergavennyfoodfestival.com, where festival stroller wristbands and tickets for other events can be purchased.
