HEREFORD-based theatre company Feral will be back at Ledbury Poetry Festival this year with their first ever performance in a theatre.

They'll be abandoning the car parks, playgrounds and college corridors fans are used to, and revisiting Shattered in Ledbury's Market Theatre on Friday, July 4.

Shattered, inspired by the classic tale of The Sandman, a mythical character who brings good dreams by sprinkling magical sand onto the eyes of children while they sleep, is says director Estelle van Warmelo, "a feel-good thing, refreshing, energising, exciting, interesting".

"It's the first time we've done it in a theatre," she adds. "We have sacrificed things, but in the sacrificing it feels like we are opening a door to something more xxxxxxxxxxxx. I love how poetry can be a theatrical experience and how theatre can be poetic."

Feral will also be in and around the festival from Friday to Sunday, July 6, with Guerilla Poetry on Saturday, July 5, when they'll be launching volleys of feel-good literary lines from the most unexpected areas of the town. You'll never know what gems are due for delivery or where they might spring up. And back by popular demand on Saturday, July 6, is Poetry Massage - Feral's no-touch massage slot in the Apothecary Shop on the High Street. Drop in for a one-to-one poetry massage where you can select a poem from anywhere round the world and have it read to you (and only you) by one of the company's performers while you kick back and relax in comfort and sensory delight. The session runs from 11am to 5pm. £1 a poem.

Ledbury Poetry Festival runs from Friday, July 4 to Sunday, July 13. Full programme details at poetry-festival.co.uk.
