THE family-based production of Shakespeare's fast-moving but rarely performed The merry Wives of Windsor, is drawing on skills and family links from across the whole community in Bromyard.

The play tells the story of how the penniless Sir John Falstaff sets out to woo two women at the same time for their money - but they are not so easily taken in and play a dastardly trick on him.

Director Margaret Dallow explains: 'We've formed a new group here in Bromyard to perform 'Merry Wives' at the Conquest Theatre. Community involvement is essential to a production of this sort, and local tradesmen and artists have willingly stepped forward to work all hours making and painting scenery, including a wonderful back-cloth of the Old Oak in Windsor Great Park painted by artist Alfred Mann. It's a large cast of actors - 20 in all, aged from 10 to 70+ ! Several of the cast are new to acting, and they're learning fast from the more experienced actors, so I feel we're helping build a company for the future."

The Merry Wives of Windsor is at the Conquest Theatre, Bromyard, today, tomorrow and Saturday at 7.30pm. To book call 01885 488575 or visit conquest-theatre.co.uk
