IN the year that marks the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth, Arts Alive is thrilled to bring Tim Crouch’s unique interpretations of the bard’s classic plays A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Tempest to Lyde Court, near Hereford.

Presented by Company of Angels, from the original co-production with Bristol Old Vic, I, Peaseblossom and I, Caliban are short, one-man shows that re-tell the plays from the fresh and sometimes startling perspectives of characters usually consigned to the sidelines.

One of Titania’s fairies from The Dream and the unfortunate Caliban from The Tempest present their own slant on these stories of magic, misunderstanding and wrongs righted. Mixing contemporary language with many excerpts from the original text, this is Shakespeare as you’ve never seen it before.

At Lyde Court Tim Crouch's re-tellings will be presented in a beautiful outdoor setting, with tea served in the interval. There’ll be music from Castle Street Jazz Quartet - and indoor provision if rain intervenes.

"I saw an earlier adaptation, 'I Malvolio' and loved it, so I am pleased to offer more in the series," says Sian Kerry of Arts Alive.

An audience member at another venue said: “Absolutely superb. Hilarious, sad, uplifting and revelatory. I’ll never look at Shakespeare in the same way.”

I, Peaseblossom and I, Caliban are at Lyde Court on Sunday, May 18 at 2.30pm. To book, call the box office on 01432 357753 or online at artsalive.co.uk
