Music fans curious about all the fuss with opera can enjoy an aria or two, without the stuffiness, in Rhyl next week.

Bringing their infectious enthusiasm for great song to the Pavilion on February 1, the Opera Boys will show a softer side of the art form full of good old fashioned musical variety and powerhouse vocal harmony.

The boys – Rob Cherry, Richard Colvin, Colin Bryce and Michael Storrs – are all classically trained at some of the UK’s prestigious schools – including The Royal Academy of Music – and between them they have performed lead roles on both the West End and on Broadway.

Speaking to The Journal, Cherry said: “We take the music very seriously, but we don’t take ourselves all the seriously.

"We perform the famous arias out context and take the audience on a fun, interactive ride – without the stuffiness.”

"It can be a blessing or a curse having the word Opera in your title, but you don’t have to put a dinner suit on to enjoy one of our shows, and you’ll recognise every piece of music. We don’t want to bark opera at people, we prefer give a bit of a cross section of music so there’s something for everyone.

Expect a range of tunes, from The Brindisi to the Robbie Williams hit, Angels, and even a Westlife-inspired routine involving stools and underwear hurled from megafans in the crowd.

The Opera Boys' winning routine has led to performances at prestigious events, including the 10th anniversary of the Queen Mary 2; a turn in 2015 as Belgian Eurovision Song Contest entrants and as backing vocalists to some of the world’s biggest superstars, including Robbie Williams, Tom Jones and Elton John.

Cherry added: "While it's great to play in places like the West End, it’s so much fun playing to regional theatres like Rhyl.

"Wales is the land of song and Welsh audiences really appreciate good singers, so they’re not afraid to get involved and sing along.”

"We’re definitely looking forward to getting some more opera converts in Rhyl!”

For beautiful vocal arrangements, spectacular close part harmony and a great one liner or two, join the Opera Boys at the Pavilion on Thursday, February 1 at 7.30pm.
