As the nights grow colder and the days shorten, a blanket of basslines is just what is needed for October nights and High Rankin brought this blanket, and cast it over an eager crowd at The Jailhouse on Friday night.
Impromptu mosh-pits to Nirvana mashups ended just as quickly thanks to the natural security measure imposed by spilled beer, and crowds magnetised to the stage by heavy drop after heavy drop made for a brilliant night for lovers of every avenue of dance music.
The time came for High Rankin to take to the stage and from every corner of the venue crowds gathered, having been tantalised by the other guest DJs of the night. A spectrum of all-things-bass was covered, with High Rankin definitely returning to Hereford on good form. While last time he visited it was on the break of Meow Meow and Don’t Carry on Like Rudeboy When Daddy’s Got a Yacht, this time he is in the swell of his new EP, which, without the viral impact of earlier tracks, may have attracted a slightly smaller crowd than before, but those who were there this time did not leave disappointed.
With him was female singer, Tigerlight, who features on current release In Hell, and added a crisp layer to classic tracks, taking the MC position down a different route to someone like Kamos who played earlier in the night to an equally keen room.
It was a night when nobody timidly hugged the wall - everyone in the room was in the mix of the excitement, and there’s no doubt that the bar has been set 'High' for Friday nights in coming weeks.
