THIS year’s Herefordshire Festival for Music, Dance, Speech and Drama attracted the largest number of entrants in its history – a total of 1,729 compared to the previous record of 1,494 in 1979.
The festival, an annual celebration of performance art, attracts entries from around the country, though the majority of performers are local.
Among the most memorable performances of the festival was Year 6 at St Francis Xavier’s School’s version of Macbeth, complete with ghosts, blood and witches, which featured in last Saturday evening’s concert to showcase the highlights of the festival. Others who performed at the concert were the Weobley and Dilwyn Dance Studio with a cabaret number, and Our Lady’s School with their interpretation of The Planets, from the Creative Dance section, while Young Musician of the Year, Elizabeth Allen played a moving woodwind solo.
