The Bookshop Band heads to Ross and Monmouth The Bookshop Band heads to Ross and Monmouth

THE Bookshop Band, which is coming to Rossiter Books in Ross and Monmouth, was formed in late 2010 by three songwriter friends.

Beth Porter, Poppy Pitt and Ben Please collaborated with their local independent bookshop, Mr B’s Emporium of Reading Delights in Bath.

The shop was looking to add a new and exciting angle to its author events programme, and so the band was tasked with writing and performing songs at the start of each event. In each case the songs were written especially for the event and were inspired by the work of the visiting author.

Since the first event in September 2010, the band has written 49 songs inspired by 29 books and is about to release a box set containing four albums of songs written in the first year.

Ben Please from The Bookshop Band says: “This project started simply as a means for us to get together and write some songs about books we loved and play them in a shop to a few people.

“We’ve had so much fun doing it, and had no expectations for anything else. It’s wonderful and incredibly exciting to receive support from such a great publishing house as Vintage which is sponsoring the current tour.”

See the band at Rossiter’s in Ross on June 19 at 7pm and Monmouth on June 20 from noon.
