HEREFORD Choral Society celebrates 175 years of music-making in Hereford this year and launches its celebrations on Saturday, March 17, with a gala concert which will bring the world-renowned Philharmonia Orchestra to the city.
A big sound is just what is required for this concert as the work to be performed is Verdi’s mighty Requiem, surely one of the most dramatic pieces of choral music ever written and an everlasting favourite.
“This will be a truly memorable event for anyone who can be in the cathedral for the concert,” said the society’s publicity officer, Mark Ewins.
“I’m sure it is everyone’s intention to surpass the standard achieved when this work was last performed in November 2008, described then as ‘richly expressive’.
The same team of soloists is being assembled for this concert, including the classical chart topping and incomparably rich-toned Welsh operatic tenor, Wynne Evans – a familiar figure and voice on certain TV adverts.”
Reserved seating is already sold out. To secure your ticket for an unreserved seat at £12, book online at herefordchoralsociety.org/tickets or call the ticket secretary on 0845 4633124.
