THE Armonico Consort returns to Malvern Theatres with director Christopher Monks for a special programme of choral music.
Alongside other sumptuous renaissance music, the centrepiece of the concert will be the huge Elizabethan motet, Spem in Alium, written by Thomas Tallis to be sung by no fewer than eight fivepart choirs. Armonico will perform the piece ‘in the round’, placing singers in the Forum Theatre’s balcony area in order to generate a ‘surround sound’ effect.
The Warwick-based Armonico enjoy a growing following in Malvern, acclaimed for the quality of their singers, the freshness of their interpretations and the diversity of their repertoire.
“Tallis’s 40-part motet is seldom performed live because of the technical demands that it makes and the large forces it requires,”
says Malvern Theatres’ Fred Moroni. “This is a great opportunity to hear one of the glories of the English musical repertoire.”
Super Size Polyphony can be heard at Malvern Theatres on Friday, February 10.
Tickets, £14-£18, are available from the box office on 01684 892277
