A DIVERSE and exciting mixture of homegrown, experimental and world music talents will gather for this year’s Brecon Jazz Festival, one of the UK’s leading family-friendly summer events.
Established greats performing include Charlie Musselwhite, the Mississippi-born blues legend, Hugh Masekela, the pioneering South African jazz trumpeter, Pee Wee Ellis, part of the James Brown Revue in the 1960s and the world-famous Cuban group, Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club.
Among emerging talents are Norwegian jazz saxophonist Håkon Kornstad; genre-bending Bristolians Get The Blessing, Kyle Eastwood (son of Hollywood legend and jazz fan Clint); hot young group The Dave Stapleton Quintet and 2008 Mercury Music Award nominees, the Portico Quartet.
Featuring more than 50 concerts over three days in August, Brecon Jazz this year has a new venue in Christ College, Brecon, and the market town’s centre will be treated to a street carnival parade in aid of Usk House Hospice.
There will be a special jazz service in Brecon Cathedral on Sunday and UK Youth will host a number of music workshops for aspiring young musicians.
