Opening of Hereford Performing Arts Festival

7:00am Friday 19th March 2010

THE 76th Hereford Performing Arts festival opens on Sunday, with a guitar master class led by Helen Sanderson, director of the World Youth Guitar festival.

The enthusiasm demonstrated by performers in previous years remains, with entries received from across the country and over the borders, and Sunday also sees the first classes – woodwind and guitar – taking to the stage.

Throughout the day on Tuesday and Wednesday, the vocal section takes place, moving to the Bishop’s Palace for the evening session and speech and drama classes start on Monday and continue through until Friday afternoon.

Piano, string and recorder, together with folk, creative and freestyle dance classes run all week with all sessions open to the public, not only as encouragement for the performers, but also because, with no corefunding, the festival must be selffinancing.

Tickets are available on the door at a cost of £1.50 per session.

The week will culminate on Saturday, March 27, with a gala concert at 7pm, when the highlights of the week can be enjoyed.

Tickets for the concert are available from The Courtyard box office on 01432 340555.
