THE newly appointed music director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Andris Nelsons, is to conduct the orchestra in Malvern on Friday, November 28.
The Latvian-born conductor made his Birmingham debut in September and was enthusiastically received by press and public alike.
The Malvern concert will be the first chance for UK audiences to hear Nelsons conduct Tchaikovsky, one of his favourite composers. He will begin with Tchaikovsky’s Hamlet overture and end with the composer’s exciting fifth symphony.
In between, he will be joined by violinist Baiba Skride for a performance of Tchaikovsky’s well-known violin concerto. Malvern Theatres marketing director Fred Moroni said: “We're delighted to have this opportunity to bring the CBSO and Andris Nelsons to Malvern, especially when it comes so soon after his appointment with the orchestra.”
