VERDI’S mighty and dramatic Requiem comes to Hereford Cathedral on Saturday, opening Hereford Choral Society’s 2008/2009 season.
HCS will be accompanied by Hereford Sinfonia and conducted by Geraint Bowen. Three of the four featured soloists, Claire Seaton, Jeanette Ager and Adrian Thompson, will be remembered from the moving HCS performance of The Kingdom by Elgar in 2006. For the Requiem, they will be joined by the exciting young baritone, David Stout.
Described by many as his greatest opera, Verdi’s Requiem provides a powerful evocation of our responses to death. From the hushed opening, through the shattering depiction of the terror of judgement day in the famous Dies irae, to the many sublime moments in the latter movements, it proves its worth as a choral work that is always popular with its audience.
Verdi’s Requiem is at Hereford Cathedral on Saturday. Tickets for the concert, which begins at 7.30pm, are available online at herefordchoralsociety.org/tickets, or from the ticket secretary, David Plowman, on 01432 274144. Up to two children under the age of 16 can attend free when accompanied by an adult.
