WILL Butterworth, a jazz pianist whose debut CD earned a three star review from the influential Jazzwise magazine, will be bringing a trio featuring drums and saxophone to Presteigne for a one-off gig at the Assembly Rooms tomorrow, Friday.
Drummer Dylan Howe, who has been called ‘one of the best drummers of his generation’, was, for a dozen years one of the late Ian Dury’s Blockheads, while saxophonist Jake McMurchie plays with rising young Bristol band, The Blessing, who recently won a BBC Jazz award and also plays with rock headliners Portishead.
“I saw Will with his previous trio at The Vortex in London,” says Tony Walton, whose Tigerfish Productions brings the current trio to Presteigne. “His sensitivity and focus are just beautiful to see as well as to listen to.”
Also on the bill is Bromyard’s Nonny James, who plays piano and sings in a wide range of styles, from Blossom Dearie to Nina Simone.
